South Lyon and the surrounding area is a developing, semi-rural community in the southwest corner of Oakland County that has become one of the fastest growing communities in the state of Michigan. The South Lyon Community School District is one of the fastest growing districts in the State, serving over 6800 students with above average MEAP scores and accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. We have seven elementary schools, two middle schools, and in the Fall of 2007 we opened our second high school.
Parks and golf courses abound in our area! Kensington Metropark offers golf, swimming, hiking, biking, fishing, sailing, picnicking, cross country skiing and tobogganing. Lyon Oaks Park, located in Lyon Township, is home to an award-winning par-75 championship golf course, a 13-acre dog park, and 2.5 miles of hiking trails. The Huron Valley Trail includes over 25 miles of paved trail and is accessible to walkers, cyclists and in-line skaters. The trail is accessible from major transportation corridors in the area and extends from South Lyon and Lyon Township to our neighboring communities of Wixom, Milford and Brighton.
Various community organizations, historical societies, churches and a variety of local events and festivals add to our small-town charm. From free summertime concerts and movies in the park to Pumpkinfest, our traditional fall festival held in October, there are a variety of family-oriented activities to choose from. Erwin Orchards and Cider Mill in Lyon Township is a popular local attraction, offering cider and pick-your-own cherries, raspberries, apples and pumpkins.
Quiet rural landscapes combined with many of the urban amenities that add just the right touch of convenience make this community uniquely different and exciting.
